BIO Launches Coronavirus Hub to Facilitate Exchange of Supplies & Services
As the world faces unprecedented challenges in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, BIO wants to do its part to ensure that critical research and development, testing, and public health programs can continue to the greatest extent possible.To support this goal, today BIO is launching the new Coronavirus Hub that connects those companies that have relevant supplies, capacities, and resources to share, with those companies, researchers, or healthcare providers that need them. The new hub will enable users to post requests for urgently needed items, as well as to post the availability of supplies and capacity. The portal connects in real time through customized announcements and is searchable by keywords. Connections for medical supplies will be facilitated in partnership with Healthcare Ready to ensure an organized and optimized allocation of items in need, and thus will not be publicly available or searchable. more

Center for Cardiovascular Health Symposium on February 14, 2020 at the Tower at STAR Audion at the University of Delaware.
The Center for Cardiovascular Health Symposium will bring together cardiovascular researchers from UD and its clinical partners to share recent advances in the field and to foster research development and collaboration in the area of cardiovascular health through the sharing of ideas and the development of an infrastructure for cardiovascular health related research. The symposium is free and a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, however registration is required. Poster Session: There will be a poster session featuring work by UD scientists, graduate students, and Scientists external to UD. Awards for outstanding posters will be presented. Author and title submission is available on our site (Abstract Submission). The deadline for submitting poster information is February 10, 2020. The team will conduct data analytics to improve utilization and user experience of the HeNN app, to increase community engagement and network building and to identify gaps in services to inform care and treatment providers and policy-makers.

Grant Writing Workshop
The UD Research Office is hosting the biennial Grant Writing Workshop on January 30, 2019. The workshop will be delivered by Grant Writers’ Seminars & Workshops, and the primary workshop presenter will be Lauren Broyles, Ph.D. This workshop comprehensively addresses both practical and conceptual aspects important to the proposal-writing process. Emphasis is given to idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant’s case to reviewers. Regardless of the agency, participants will learn to write with a linear progression of logic, which leads reviewers through their applications. Strategies designed to merit a fundable review score are emphasized. Postdocs and Ph.D. students are welcome to attend the workshop. Non-UD participants from DE-INBRE and DE ACCEL CTR sponsored institutions are welcome to attend.

Nomination deadline for HHMI Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study
The goal of HHMI’s Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study program is to ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is prepared to assume leadership roles in science, particularly college and university faculty who have the responsibility to develop the next generation of scientists. The training of scientists and engineers has long been a cornerstone of public science policy. HHMI has invested and continues to invest substantially in graduate and medical research education through the direct support of fellowship and training programs. The Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study program promotes excellence in the life sciences and related fields by supporting (i) PhD students committed to a career in academic research, and (ii) faculty and training programs dedicated to developing the talents of promising graduate students from underrepresented groups.
